Well, this morning I got internet back at home. The support center was down over the weekend, I was on hold for over an hour on Monday with no luck, I called at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday to find out that's when the support center closes now. Finally, this morning, I got Raj on the phone to help me. It took about 20 minutes and I'm bak online.
I've been very frustrated with AT&T DSL, but it looks like my only other really good (but expensive) choice is Comcast broadband. Word on the street is that ClearWire has too many outages, which would be worse than my current woes. I can't get Qwest or Verizon as it looks like my phone line isn't supported by either of them or I'm too far away from their office, or whatever the real reason is.
In the end, I may just be keeping AT&T anyway. No matter how frustrated they made me over the weekend, they're one of the few high-speed games in town.
If anyone has a better suggestion, I'm open to it!

We've had Clearwire for over a month now and it has never been out. I'm much happier with it than I was with Quest.
It does depend on the signal you get from your house, but they check it for you before you sign up.
After having way too many internet woes, we finally bit the bullet and went with Comcast, but at least we got a great deal on it for the entire first year.
Spend several grant to get fiber optic cable to your house and you can choose your ISP after that. Very fast, but not so affordable.
First-call Qwest or Verizon and verify, because I found that the online map isn't always accurate, even when you enter your address...we had comcast and loved it (I know it costs alot, but we had peace of mind that it would never be out & Nate needed it for school)
I know it has been a very frustrating week-end, but over all how has AT&T been. I can't believe that they will have their system down for 3 or 4 days next time you have a problem. I have learned that as frustrated as I get at times with suppliers, the "grass is not greener" with some other supplier.
We have Comcast and it crashes every once in a great while and then in a bad way. That is when I practice all my meditation skills. (Oooohm, ooohm. My thoughts control my actions and I control my thoughts.) And I try to remember not to smash my keyboard into the CPU before I start my meditations.
